About AI Hold'em
AI Hold'em is an open-source Texas Hold'em demonstration where two to six human and bot seats can share a table. Table URLs are shareable: anyone who knows the URL can watch the game. This is a technical demonstration, not a real-money gambling service.
Poker bots
Equity Rules
Equity Rules is a deterministic bot that runs without external inference. It uses calculated showdown equity, pot odds, hole cards, board texture, position, stack sizes, and action history to select a move.
Difficulty
- Easy uses more conservative thresholds and disables bluffs and semi-bluffs.
- Medium lowers the thresholds and enables semi-bluffs.
- Hard uses the lowest thresholds and enables semi-bluffs plus selective pure bluffs.
Difficulty changes only its decision policy. It does not change the shuffled cards, available information, or engine-defined legal actions.
TypeSafe Jev
TypeSafe Jev sends structured game context and complete legal move candidates to TypeSafe System One. System One evaluates the candidates, and the selected move is validated before it can change the game.
Difficulty
- Easy samples from the provider's probabilities across the available moves. Choices with zero probability are never selected.
- Medium uses the provider's preferred move.
- Hard currently also uses the provider's preferred move. There is no additional local selection difference between medium and hard today.
Difficulty affects move selection only. It never gives the bot different cards, hidden information, or extra legal actions.
LLM bots
Each configured LLM bot supplies a display label and model. The model receives constrained game context through the configured LLM provider and must return a structured legal action and sizing choice.
Playstyles
LLM bots can be assigned one of three playstyles:
- Balanced seeks the highest expected chip value without a directional preference.
- Tight avoids marginal, high-variance continuations and requires a stronger edge before committing a large part of the effective stack, but does not fold a clearly profitable call.
- Aggressive prefers betting or raising when expected values are comparable, applies pressure with credible draws, and uses larger value bets when appropriate.
Playstyle guides the model's decisions; it does not change the cards, available information, or engine-defined legal actions.
Rules enforced by the poker engine
The @hivetech/poker-engine package remains authoritative for the deck, turns, legal actions, betting, pots, and winners. Humans and bots only propose moves. The server validates and applies each proposal through the engine adapter before saving it with a version check.
Bot settings and future playstyle customization remain downstream of this boundary, so they cannot bypass the poker rules.
Privacy and transparency
Active hole cards are revealed only to the browser that owns the seat. Spectators do not receive provider prompts or raw provider responses. Provider-backed bots send their bot-visible decision context to their provider; Equity Rules performs no external inference.
